TRANSITS FOR THE UNITED
STATES April
21, 2008 By
Monica Wallach Dear Friends,
In this newsletter, I would like to examine the chart of the United
States. The last time I did a
detailed analysis of the U.S. chart was in October 2001, just after the attacks
of September 11. That analysis
concluded that the planetary transits aligning over the U.S. chart for the next
several years showed a high probability of the country entering a prolonged
period of war. (See full article
at: http://monicawallach.com/Astrological%20Prediction%20of%20Upcoming%20Events.htm).
This newsletter will examine the
upcoming transits for the United States. One
of the biggest influences in the U.S. chart over the next several years will
come from a transit of Pluto. In
mythology, Pluto was known as the god of the underworld.
In astrology, Pluto has an association with intense experiences, wealth,
death and transformation. Pluto
takes approximately 248 years to cycle the 360-degree zodiac one time.
As a country, the United States has not yet completed one cycle of Pluto
to its natal chart.
Above
you will see the birth chart for the United States.
Note that at the moment of birth, Pluto sat at 27 degrees and 33 minutes
in the sign of Capricorn g
in
the second house. It also was
moving in retrograde motion, as noted by the Ś symbol. By looking at the transit chart below,
you can see that currently Pluto has moved almost fully around the zodiac, and
today we find it at 1 degree of Capricorn.
If
you look at the seventh house in the U.S. birth chart, it shows four planets in
the sign of Cancer a:
Venus at 3 degrees, Jupiter at 5 degrees, the Sun at 13 degrees, and
Mercury at 24 degrees. Cancer has an association with the themes of mothering and
nurturing. The United States shows
these traits in its willingness to help others throughout the world.
Having Venus and Jupiter together in any chart brings benefits, as these
two planets have an association with wealth, ease, harmony, and benefits.
Having the Sun next to Venus and Jupiter usually indicates wealth and
happiness for the person or entity born under that alignment.
Now that Pluto has started to move
through Capricorn, the sign opposite Cancer, it will make an “opposition” to
the U.S. planets in Cancer. This
starts in 2009 as Pluto opposes Venus, and ends in 2021 with the opposition to
Mercury. You can see this
graphically in the chart below by noting Pluto in the first house starting to
align opposite Venus in the seventh house.
What does this transit of Pluto
indicate? To predict the future
with any accuracy, we have to research the past.
One key time to examine was when Pluto moved through the sign of Cancer
itself, and aligned directly over the U.S. planets in Cancer.
This occurred between the years 1916 to 1935.
(Pluto moves at different rates of speed through the zodiac, due to its
elliptical orbit. For example,
Pluto spent thirty years moving through the thirty degrees of the sign of
Taurus, and only twelve years moving through the thirty degrees of Sagittarius.)
Pluto’s transit of Cancer in the 1920’s and 1930’s coincided with
the build up and crash of the stock market, and the economic depression that
followed. During the stock market crash of 1929,
Pluto had just moved over the Sun in the U.S. chart, a very key indicator in any
birth chart, as it signals the life force energy of the person or country born.
In the chart below, you can see transiting Pluto at 19 degrees Cancer,
just past the 13 degree Sun.
On
the date of birth of the USSR, we find the Sun at 14 degrees in the sign of
Scorpio e in the third house.
In the years 1989 to 1991, transiting Pluto aligned directly over the Sun
in the Soviet chart. This coincided
with the time when the country went through profound political and economic
changes. Note that at the birth of
the new Russia, transiting Pluto was located at 21 degrees Scorpio, just past
the old USSR Sun at 14 Scorpio.
The 84-year cycle of Uranus also bears watching. From 1928 to 1930, Uranus squared Venus, Jupiter, and the Sun in the U.S. birth chart, meaning it moved through the sign of Aries and made a ninety degree angle to Cancer. Uranus completes its 84-year cycle and will again come into the sign of Aries and square the U.S. Venus, Jupiter, and Sun in the years 2011 to 2014. The alignments during 2011 to 2014 will
mirror those of 1928 through 1930, in that both transiting Pluto and Uranus will
influence Venus, Jupiter, and Sun in the U.S. chart at the same time, and in
roughly the same alignments. Since
Venus, Jupiter and the Sun indicate wealth and life force energy, a period of
economic upheaval for the U.S. seems likely. Given that Pluto governs longer cycles,
and has a strong association with the death of old forms and the transformation
into new ways of being, it seems the United States has a fairly intense period
of change coming. During the
transit of Pluto through the sign of Cancer in the 1920’s and early 1930’s,
the country saw massive changes brought on by the excesses of the 1920’s and
then the hardships of the depression in the early 1930’s. We should feel no surprise if a similar scenario emerges
during Pluto’s transit this time. Given an examination of these longer
cycles, within the next five to six years, it seems likely that the United
States will see a period of extreme economic and/or political change. Love and light, Monica |
